· Responsible for the health of the animals including preventative medicine, treatment and disease control procedures


· Responsible for the coordination, conduct and aftercare of animals involved in surgical studies in the laboratory.


· Maintains the facility’s AAALAC accreditation by assuring compliance with Animal Welfare Regulations, the Public Health Service policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and recommendations in the Guide for the Care


and Use of Laboratory Animals.


· Performs surgical procedures and participate in projects where surgical/clinical expertise, postmortem examination, diagnostic expertise, and/or veterinary care are required.


· Develops SOPs, GLP protocols, study plans, and reports as needed.


· Trains and supervises personnel in concepts of animal welfare and special techniques.


· Advises on the development of new surgical methods to enlarge NAMSA competencies and reputation


· Participates in audits/inspections as needed.


· May serve as non-GLP project coordinator as assigned.


· May serve as member of the IACUC.





Qualifications and Skills

· A valid state veterinary license.

· More than 5 years of related experience.
