Role Summary/Purpose
As a member of the CSS Central Team in TRMS you will engineer computers and Linux operating systems for the various GEHC products. We develop operating systems that are deployed on medical devices in hospitals and research institutions globally. You will work cross-functionally to ensure that our system is configurable, secure, performant and scalable.
Essential Responsibilities
? Troubleshooting and solving complex technical problems within the Linux OS, drivers, file systems, communication and associated peripheral devices.
? Working in an engineering team to develop, test, release and maintain a Linux OS distribution based off open source software.
? Learn and maintain a high level of expertise on applicable compute technologies such as, Linux OS, BIOS, memory management, file systems, window managers, HW drivers and display adaptors.
? Leverage Agile and Lean software development methodologies to drive reliability upstream into the product development life cycle.
? Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with GEHC product teams for integrating and supporting the Linux OS in our medical products.
? Working closely with product teams in requirements gathering and software design
? Work with open source software, upstream FOSS communities, projects, developers and mailing lists
Quality Specific Goals:
1. Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position
2. Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines
3. Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required
4. Support compliance/closure of Regulatory and Quality requirements before completing Design Outputs/Program Deliverables
5. Participate in continuous improvement activities by identifying and appropriately escalating process and product quality gaps, providing solutions when possible
Qualifications/Requirements
1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related computer field
2. Minimum 3 years of experience in software development in a Linux environment.
3. Experience in the complete software development cycle
4. Proven expertise of managing Linux and its internals, device drivers & networking protocols
5. Proven expertise in Linux troubleshooting
6. Awareness of OS performance tuning
7. Strong performance history in software development projects, working with global teams
8. Experience in Linux OS and software installation procedures and technology with the ability to develop Unix/Linux scripting & commands
9. Excellent technical acumen to perform design reviews, code reviews and code coverage analysis
10. Working knowledge of Clearquest or equivalent defect management tool
11. Working knowledge of subversion, git, or other version control system.
12. Exposure to system admin tasks and responsibilities
13. Awareness of multiple compute architectures
Desired Characteristics
1. Masters Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related computer field
2. Experience with Scrum or other Agile development methods
3. Experience working in a regulated environment(FDA, CFDA etc)
4. Experience in computer subsystem testing, analysis, BIOS, benchmarking and performance characterization at both the low level and applications level
5. Experience in X-servers and window management system software
6. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies to address complex business needs.
7. Working knowledge of 802.11 wireless and its related drivers on Linux
8. Proven expertise in PC evaluation
9. Experience with diverse software technologies.
